King Knight

First appearance: Shovel Knight (2014)

King Knight from "Shovel Knight". He is one of the eight knights of "The Order of No Quarter", and has usurped the throne of the grandiose castle of Pridemoor Keep. This fabulous, flashy "Decadent Dandy" isn't an actual king, he just has a royal theme (but don't tell him that, unless you want an accolade of agony). He fights with the magnificent sceptre of his, and has a move where he summons fanfares that makes harmful confetti float down the screen.

He might be an obligatory starter boss in the game, and thus one of the easiest (if not THE easiest) bosses, plus the fact that he is hardly taken seriously by anybody, but I still like him very much. Flamboyant characters are hard for me to not love, and King Knight is no exception. His arrogant fake-king persona and his royal design is also very nice, and that confetti move of his, while not extremely harmful, is still so very unique and unexpected.

The biggest problem I had while drawing this was the gold. I really suck at drawing gold, to make it shiny and glorious enough. I tried to mix several light and dark tones of yellow and brown to get the contrasts, but it looked very weird and messy to me, so I reduced the number of colors, and it looked a bit better. I added pure white spots, and sparkles on the golden things, to strengthen the effect, and also drew a lot of smaller sparkles around him to make the drawing more living. Still, despite the infernal struggle, I am quite happy with the result.
